Marriage is not the ultimate Christian experience.
When we deal with sexuality we need to deal with it, with grace, because sexual sin is where we carry the most shame.
Those were two of the most profound quotes among many I loved from watching the newly realeased documentary, I survived I kissed dating goodbye by Joshua Harris; author of the best selling book “I Kisssed Dating Goodbye”.
BACKGROUND
“I Kissed Dating Goodbye” was a book that really encouraged Christian singles who desired marriage to stop dating multiple people, so that once we found our spouse we would not have felt so many other people knew us so intimately or had pieces of us through dating.
I am an avid reader of all things relationships, marriage, dating, and courtship especially in Christiandom. I knew about a year ago Joshua Harris was coming out with this documentary and I thoroughly looked forward to supporting its release.
I was curious on why the premise of the documentary was basically him saying he was now questioning what generated the entire exsistence of his book. He believed now from other people’s feedback, dating can help or teach a believer lessons on their quest to marriage.
From what I read it seems the original “I Kissed Dating Goodbye” book , challenged us by saying we don’t need to kiss or encounter a lot of toads to meet our prince. And truly God has someone special out there for us all. These are from excerpts I have seen from other sources, I have never fully read the book. To me it made sense, but I knew it wasn’t the gospel and I still had to depend on the Bible and the Holy Spirit when it came to my relationships
MY REVIEW & THOUGHTS
With that in mind I enjoyed the documentary, I think it was admirable that Joshua Harris listened to the way his book was used as a legalistic weapon vs a means to learn and enhance one’s views and approach to marriage. The experts shown on the film were great and really gave a world-view to the different beliefs on how the journey to marriage can be approached.
He states clearly though, God’s Word in writing premarital sex before marriage can still be detrimental and saving that part of ourselves for marriage is still of great importance! Joshua Harris shared that it was going to a purity conference in DC on Capital Hill that sparked his dream and desire to write his first book.
THE MOST IMPORTANT MESSAGE OF CHRIST
I am not sure how his original book was concluded, but I am glad the documentary ended with the ultimate Christian marriage to make, Heaven. “The Ultimate wedding to make”, is the name and last chapter of my new book out now, on my own personal journey to the altar of my earthly marriage, but ultimately my goal is still making Heaven as a CHRIST FOLLOWER and the BRIDE OF CHRIST.
In His Love,
